Australian Visa Overview

 

Work Visa

 

An Australian business can sponsor employees for a work visa.

 

Most sponsorships are valid for 4 years, during which time visa holders may apply for permanent residence.

 

In some cases employees may apply for permanent residence immediately. There is more flexible criteria for those prepared to work in regional Australia for a period of time.

 

General Skilled Migration Visa

 

This visa class provides permanent residence, and provides unrestricted work rights, and access to most privileges enjoyed by Australian Citizens.

 

Some criteria include :

  • You would need to be under 45
  • Have good English skills
  • Qualifications and/or significant work experience in skilled employment
  • Many general skilled categories require you to pass a points test
  • Sponsorship by family members who are Australian residents can be advantageous

Partner Visa

 

If you are in a relationship with an Australian resident, they may sponsor you for a partner visa.

This visa class includes:

  • spouses
  • fiances
  • de facto spouses
  • same-sex partners

In most cases, this is a 2-stage process, with a temporary partner visa being granted initially, and a permanent partner visa being granted 2 years after the initial application.

 

Parent Visa

 

This visa allows parents to join their children who are living in Australia. There is both a temporary and a permanent category available, as well as a cheaper option with a long waiting period, or a more expensive option with a greatly reduced processing period.

 

Temporary Visa

 

There is a range of temporary visit visas and temporary business visit visas available if you wish to visit Australia for the following purposes:

  • holiday or to visit relatives in Australia,
  • working holiday, study in Australia,
  • business purposes

It is also possible to apply for a retirement visa, for applicants over 55 to enjoy their retirement years in Australia.

 

Business Visa

 

Business migration is a pathway for the following people to migrate to Australia.

 

If you are one of the following individuals you may be eligible for a Business visa:

  • senior executives
  • business owners
  • people with significant investment portfolios

This option is generally a 2-stage process, with a 4-year provisional visa granted initially, followed by a permanent visa once business interests are established in Australia.

 

Investor Visa

 

The investor visa is for people who have a successful business or investment career, and will invest in or establish a business in Australia.

 

Working Holiday Visa

 

For 18 – 29 year people from certain countries to travel and work for 12 months whilst on a working holiday, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.

 

Student Visa

 

There is a range of student visas available if you have been accepted to study full-time at an educational institution in Australia.

 

Retirement Visa

 

This visa is designed for self-funded retirees who have no dependants and who want to reside in Australia during their retirement years
