Subclass 856 - Employer Nomination Scheme

This is a Permanent Residence visa, usually for applicants that have held a subclass 457 temporary business visa for 2 years, or otherwise hold formal qualifications + 3 years of work experience. A waiver of the 3 year exerience requirement may be sought under exceptional circumstances.

Some of the basic criteria is as follows: (1 July 2010)

• Form 47ES.
• Application fee $2,575.
• Applicant must be in Australia to make the application.
• Applicant must hold a qualifying visa.
• Must be nominated by an employer in an approved occupation.
• Must meet either one of the criteria below:
  1. Skills have been assessed by an assessing authority in relation to the occupation being nominated, and the applicant has 3 years work experience in the occupation.
  2. Is paid a salary of $165,000.
  3. The applicant holds a qualifying visa, i.e. subclass 457, has worked in the occupation being nominated for 2 years prior to the application, and has worked for the nominating employer for 1 year immediately before making the application.
• The applicant is less than 45 years old.
• Has vocational English.
• If required, holds a license and registration for the nominated occupation.
• Meets health and character requirements.
• Holds a valid passport.
